Barbara Roux: Birds Grow on Trees
Event Date: 10/07/2010
11:00am - 6:00pm A.I.R. Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new works by Barbara Roux, which will be on view in Gallery II from October 6 - October 31, 2010.
In her installation of sculpture, photographs and narrative text, Birds Grow on Trees, Barbara Roux continues her engagement with wild habitat niches on the verge of suburban New York. An active conservationist and combined-media artist, Roux utilizes her experiences working daily in wild areas to create works that are layered with meaning. This exhibition focuses on a small forested, wetland cove on the north shore of Long Island.
Themes of natural history and preservation are subtly woven through this exhibition of works that create a time, place, evidence of an event and emotional connection. The site is brought into the gallery space through sculptures consisting of altered but not disguised elements from the forest.
A small artist's book, Birds Grow on Trees, accompanies the exhibition.
Roux has had her photographs featured as the cover of Orion Magazine, Fourth River Journal and Annals of Earth. She has had solo exhibitions at the A.I.R. Gallery, Lyman Allyn Art Museum, Islip Art Museum, Discovery Museum and Queens College Art Center. Her work has been reviewed in Sculpture Magazine, Art New England, The New York Times, Newsday, Volume Magazine and Arts Magazine. She has also been featured on NBC television.
