As a member of the State Assembly, Micah Kellner has been a leader on environmental equity. Kellner fought for taxes on plastic bags to reduce their use in New York City and opposed any move to allow natural gas drilling in the Watershed.

Additionally, Kellner sponsored the Consumer Electronics Recycling Act, which requires major retailers to collect unwanted electronics of the brands sold in their stores. Kellner has supported laws requiring landlords to apply submeters to residential rental buildings to provide greater transparency, tenant input, and to require minimum improvements to be made that allow for energy efficiency.
