 A member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, Representative Eliot Engel has been a longtime supporter of achieving energy independence and protecting the health of his constituents.

Engel has sponsored and cosponsored various pieces of legislation to repeal subsidies for oil producers and introduced legislation to promote the production and use of alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies. He also cosponsored a bill to require gas companies to disclose the chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing activities to protect the health of New Yorkers.

Historically, Engel has defended the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act, voting against the TRAIN Act in 2011 and cosponsoring the Clean Water Protection Act, and he vows to continue the fight if re-elected. His dedication to the environment has earned him an excellent 92% lifetime score on LCV's National Environmental Scorecard.
