Representing parts of the Bronx and Queens for over a decade, Representative Joseph Crowley has been instrumental in creating environmentally-friendly transportation policies and protecting funding for mass transit. Crowley has also been involved in a number of local water restoration projects in the Bronx River Basin, Orchard Beach, and Flushing Bay and Creek, and he led efforts to transform the "Elmhurst Gas Tanks" area into a public park. His appreciation for public lands extends nationally as well, as evidence by his cosponsorship of legislation to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and other advocacy efforts to protect wilderness areas.

In addition, Rep. Crowley supports incentives for renewable energies, the repeal of taxpayer-funded subsidies to Big Oil, and protecting public health by defending the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts. Crowley's advocacy for the environment has earned him an outstanding 95% lifetime score on LCV's National Environmental Scorecard.
