 Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy has consistently protected the environmental health of New York through her legislative efforts in the House of Representatives. Notably, McCarthy introduced the Water Assessment and Treatment Evaluation Research (WATER) Study Act, which called on the EPA to investigate the presence of pharmaceuticals and personal care products in the nation's drinking water.

Additionally, McCarthy supported and co-sponsored various Acts such as: the American Clean Energy and Security Act, the Clean Water Restoration Act, the Safe Climate Act, as well as Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard (RPS).

McCarthy received scores of 86% in 2011, 96% in the 111th Congress, and an overall 92% lifetime score. She is a strong supporter of NYLCV priorities, and her dedication to preserving the environment makes her an ideal advocate in Congress.
