Kingston Mayor Shayne GalloKingston Mayor Shayne GalloThe Kingston Conservation Advisory Committee just released a 268-page Climate Action Plan for the city, and it would like local residents to consider and comment on the draft document.

The plan includes recommendations for comprehensive policies and programs to: reduce greenhouse gas emissions; enhance operational and energy efficiencies; reduce energy costs; support local job growth; adapt to a changing climate; improve quality of life; save taxpayer dollars, and promote social justice.

"It is my hope that, as part of our effort to improve the quality of life in the City of Kingston and continue to grow as a sustainable community, you join me in the active participation in the endeavors set forth in this plan," said Mayor Shayne Gallo.

Climate analyst Rich Schiafo prepared the Climate Action Plan under a grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

Copies will soon be available at the city clerk's office, the Kingston Library, the city parks department, Hudson Coffee Traders, and Monkey Joe's.  A PDF version of the document is available here.

A public meeting on the draft action plan will be held as part of the Conservation Advisory Committee's next meeting, Thursday, June 7, 7 p.m. in Conference Room 2 of Kingston City Hall.
