Among our top issues: better transportation planning to encourage smart growth and alternatives to driving; offshore wind power development; and promoting the Excelsior New Jobs program as a way to create green-collar jobs and advance overall energy efficiency and sustainability progress. "Our focus this year is on changes that will cost little or nothing to implement, and changes that will even save taxpayer dollars over the long term," said Marcia Bystryn, NYLCV's President. "The bottom line is that sustainability is not only good for our air and water, it's also good for Long Island's economy. The coalition met more than a dozen senators, Assembly members and senior staff, including Senate Majority Leader John Sampson, who joined in a meeting with Sens. Brian Foley and Craig Johnson to affirm their commitment to Long Island's priorities.
