Transmission Line Proposal Still A Live Wire

New York Regional Interconnection has sued the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, challenging its denial of the company's plan for a 190-mile power line between Marcy and Orange County.

NYRI has sought a review by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, characterizing FERC decision as "arbitrary, capricious and contrary to law," the Utica Observer-Dispatch reported. In its appeal, the company took issue with "state-level rules for approving power-line projects that involve a weighted vote by power grid stakeholders," of which Consolidated Edison (Con Ed) is one of the largest.

On its Web site, the company announced that it would "reach out to leaders in the environmental community in the coming weeks and months, including people and organizations that are specifically opposed to the NYRI Project."

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente and U.S. Rep. Michael Arcuri, said they stand ready to do whatever they can to block the power line.
