NYC's Greener, Greater Buildings Plan Becomes Law

Submitted by Dan Hendrick on Wed, 2009-12-30 16:18.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has signed a package of four bills that will put the Big Apple at the forefront of the nation's green buildings movement.

Mayor Michael BloombergMayor Michael BloombergThe four bills that collectively make up the Greener, Greater Buildings Plan were sponsored by Council Members Jim Gennaro, Domenic Recchia, Melissa Mark-Viverito and Dan Garodnick. The plan will create New York City's first Energy Code, improve energy efficiency in existing buildings, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower energy costs, and create thousands of construction-related jobs.

Mayor Bloomberg described the new laws as "the most significant action to date to meet our PlaNYC commitment to reduce emissions 30 percent by 2030."

This initiative is proof-positive that NYLCV members can make a difference. Thank you to everyone who took action and voiced their support to the City Council - we did it!
