Restarting Plans For Syracuse's Inner Harbor

Submitted by Dan Hendrick on Wed, 2009-06-17 16:44.
For an unlucky 13 years, the Lakefront Development Corp. and the New York State Thruway Authority have struggled to bring development to the 42 acres designated as Syracuse's Inner Harbor. Time for a Plan B, the Post-Standard reported.

Syracuse's Inner HarborSyracuse's Inner HarborBy July, the state government is expected to disseminate a revised request for proposals that divides the proposal solicitation into distinct sections for residential, commercial and industrial uses. five years ago, in the last failed attempt to find a developer for the property, the RFP required the winning proposal to handle all three aspects.

The state closed the canal terminal years ago, and joined with Syracuse to invest heavily to turn the neighborhood into a nice park whose summer stage provides a venue for many outdoor performances.

Responses to the request for proposals proposals will be considered by a committee of the lakefront corporation, which will make recommendations to the corporation's full board, then send it to the Canal Corp. board for a final decision. This could happen in the fall, Joe LaGuardia, executive director of the Lakefront Development Corp., told the newspaper.
