Car Pool Service Helps Capital District Commuters Reduce Carbon Footprint

By registering for a free car pooling match service online, Capital District commuters can reduce their carbon emissions by about 43 pounds, according to The Daily Gazette.

The CDTA's car pool service, Ipool2, matches commuters by travel route and other preferencesThe CDTA's car pool service, Ipool2, matches commuters by travel route and other preferencesAbout 80% of the region's 375,000 commuters travel solo at least three times a week. So far, 200 have signed up on the Capital District Transportation Authority's new and improved Web site, which uses a Google-Maps-like system to connect car poolers by travel route as well as gender, smoking, and driving preferences.

In order to attract commuters wary of venturing out without their own cars, the CDTA guarantees a free cab ride home in the event of an emergency.
