Students at Sullivan County Community College will have something to write home about this January, when the world's largest vertical-shaft wind turbine will be completed on their campus, according to the Times Herald Record.

Coming soon to Sullivan County Community CollegeDespite facing opposition from some nearby residents, the project moved forward Wednesday with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by local lawmakers and college officials.

With the capacity to generate power for about 400 houses each year, the 111-foot turbine is expected to reduce the college's electricity bill by half, and will come in handy for students enrolled in a new clean energy and green building program.
