Mayor Bloomberg Unveils Comprehensive Energy Conservation Plan

Mayor Bloomberg announced a long-term plan on July 7th for meeting greenhouse gas reduction goals laid out in PlaNYC, according to the Mayor's office.

It calls for retrofitting city buildings, using wastewater treatment plants to produce energy, and purchasing energy efficient vehicles, among other steps.

A portion of the city's energy budget, along with funding from private foundations and other outside sources, will cover the project's estimated $2.3 billion cost.
