Mayor Bloomberg announced a long-term plan on July 7th for meeting greenhouse gas reduction goals laid out in PlaNYC, according to the Mayor's office.

Mayor Bloomberg announced the new plan on Monday in the Bronx.The plan, drafted by the Energy Conservation Steering Committee, aims to reduce New York City's greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by the year 2017. It calls for retrofitting city buildings, using wastewater treatment plants to produce energy, and purchasing energy efficient vehicles, among other steps.

A portion of the city's energy budget, along with funding from private foundations and other outside sources, will cover the project's estimated $2.3 billion cost.
