For 3 Days in August, Parts of Manhattan Will Be Declared Car-FreeSubmitted by Liana Grey on Tue, 2008-06-17 15:06.
As part of Mayor Bloomberg's environmental campaign, pedestrians and cyclists will claim a 6.9-mile stretch of Manhattan on three consecutive Saturdays in August, according to the New York Times. From 7 am to 1 pm, cars will be banned from Park Avenue in the Upper East Side all the way down to Lafayette Street near the Brooklyn Bridge. Free yoga and dance lessons will be offered and bicycles will be rented out in order to turn the car-free zone into a bustling, park-like space.
