State Discusses Need For More Energy PlanningSubmitted by Michelle Subbiondo on Thu, 2008-04-03 15:49.
A $1 billion project is in the works to add four new natural gas pipelines from Canada to New York City.Discussions, Tuesday, at the annual energy update breakfast centered primarily around the need for new electric generation in the state; a topic that legislators have been unable to reach an agreement on. According to the Albany Times Union, the breakfast was sponsored by the Energy Association of New York State and the Northeast Gas Association, two energy trade groups. Legislators cited the need for a new plan to not only monitor the amount of natural gas used by power plants, but also to bring more into the state alleviating the increasing demand and soaring prices. There was also talk of passing a bill to fund a $2 million energy plan that would help drive energy policy in the state. The governor's deputy secretary of energy is optimistic the Legislature can pass both a power plant siting law and an energy planning bill this year. |
