Riders Back Congestion FeeSubmitted by Nana-Yaw Acheampong on Tue, 2008-03-11 18:06.
Most of the riders of the MTA buses support Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s congestion pricing plan (plaNYC) as long as it means more buses on the road, according to a new survey . A majority of riders said that they wouldn't mind charging riders $8 to get into parts of Manhattan during rush hour as long as the money went to transit improvements. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been looking for a way to push this plan as a way to ease traffic in Manhattan and fund improvements for mass transit. The March 31st deadline nears and if local and state lawmakers don’t sign off by the end of the month, the city may lose out on $354 million in federal funds given for the plan. Some people fight to back the plan and push the fact that there would be many transit improvements. While other opponents believe the survey is flawed and people do not understand that the improvements are not guaranteed and the revenue may not go for it.
