Mayor, Council May Spar Over Electronic Recycling

Submitted by Sergio Hernandez on Tue, 2008-02-19 17:10.
In recent days debate has sparked between the City council and Mayor Michael Bloomberg : whether to hold manufactures responsible for recycling old electronics , which contain hazards like lead and mercury. Mr. Bloomberg argues that this new law would place a burden on the business and could lead to some job cuts. The city council, on the other hand, believes that this step is essential to make New York City an eco-friendly location. City council members warned that they would override Mr. Bloomberg's veto, indicating that the dispute may end up in court.
