Nassau Legislators OK Plan To Transform Grumman PropertySubmitted by Jarrel Doorn on Thu, 2008-02-14 16:44.
The Nassau County Legislature this week voted to purchase and lease over 100 acres of the former Grumman property in Bethpage -- one of Long Island's most notorious brownfields -- to create a massive incubator for the next generation of jobs on Long Island. According to Newsday, County Executive Tom Suozzi is hoping to build an industrial park on the site catering to high-tech industries with the greatest promise for growth. Later this year, the county will request proposals on the sale and eventual use of the land. The site is part of a 600-acre facility formerly used by Grumman Corp., although some of the land was owned by the Navy. Contamination is believed to be widespread throughout the property. |
