Could Light Rail Be Added To New Tappan Zee Bridge?Submitted by Jarrel Doorn on Tue, 2008-02-12 18:53.
The Journal News reports that the 61 member organizations of the group agree with the idea of running commuter trains over the new bridge, like Carolyn Cunningham, a board member of FCWC and Maureen Morgan, a FCWC board member and a longtime advocate for rail through the east-west corridor. Not every local group agrees, however; Riverkeeper said it favors rehabilitating the existing structure. Commuter trains are among the options for the bridge that are being contemplated by the state Department of Transportation, the state Thruway Authority and Metro-North Railroad. Those agencies will have the final say on what mass-transit mode is selected and whether the 52-year-old bridge is replaced or refurbished. |
