Preserving Nassau's Parks

Friends of Massapequa Preserves aims to save parks like these from being transferred from Nassau CountyFriends of Massapequa Preserves aims to save parks like these from being transferred from Nassau CountyFriends of Masssapequa Preserve are trying to conserve the 423 acres of woodlands, ponds, lakes,and freshwater wetlands of the Massapequa Preserve that runs from from Merrick Road in Massapequa to the Southern State Parkway in North Massapequa. According to Newsday, they are afraid that the town would change dramatically by building docks and ball parks, and charging admissions.

The group has also begun to campaign on behalf of Stillwell Woods Preserve saying that the preserve must remain "forever wild". In order for this plan to work,the Nassau County Legislature would have to approve of it. But according to Legislator Petter J. Schmitt "It is a dumb, dumb idea and I will not have a part of it."
