Buffalo's Recycling Program Gets Failing Grade

RecyclingRecyclingOnly eight percent of Buffalo's waste is being recycled, leading City Council President David Franczyk to conclude that "We've failed."

According to the Buffalo News, the criticism surfaced at a Common Council meeting, where legislators voted to extend a joint recycling program with Erie County. While inking the extension, lawmakers said they expect better results by the end of the year.

The city's recycling rate reached a peak of 14 percent in the mid-1990s. Comparable cities recycle at least one-third of their waste, experts say.
