Onondaga County Waste Transfer Station Set For RelocationSubmitted by Kate Hajjar on Tue, 2007-11-27 12:41.
Syracuse's Post-Standard reports that the company Destiny USA is set to build a research and development park on land currently occupied by the Ley Creek waste management site in Salina. This waste transfer station, which is operated by the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA), is located in an ideal spot near both I-81 and the New York State Thruway. Destiny has agreed to work with OCRRA to build a new facility and has offered $30 million to make that transition easier. OCRRA is considering a new site off of Thompson Road near Carrier Circle in DeWitt, but according to OCRRA few sites will have the convenience of close highway proximity like Ley Creek. The process of getting a permit for a new waste transfer station is expensive and long and because of this OCRRA expects it to be 27 months before they are fully relocated. |
