The Indian Point nuclear power plantThe Indian Point nuclear power plantLawyers for the state Department of Environmental Conservation submitted comments to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, demanding that the agency review Indian Point Nuclear Plant's license renewal application in greater detail, according to the Journal News.

The DEC argues that the original license granted in the 1970s ignored environmental factors such as emergency planning, potential for terrorist attacks and earthquake dangers. A license renewal application to operate a nuclear plant is less stringent than a new license application, and DEC officials believe the higher standard is more appropriate.

The NRC said that it will consider all comments.
