Surging Interest Prompts Changes At State ForestsSubmitted by Sabrina Must on Mon, 2007-08-06 10:49.
Outdoor enthusiasts are more steadily visiting the state park reserves of Broome, Tioga and Chenango counties. The state Department of Environmental Conservation has recognized the changing popularity and has tried to ease the new goers' concerns and desires for upgraded trails and park information. The Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin reported that the DEC revamped its Web site, outlining history, field notes, trail guides and directions for the dog walkers, hikers, hunters, nature watchers and horseback riders. In addition, Unit Management Plans will provide the reserve administrators with a set of ground rules to help foresters reconcile conflicting demands and expectations, as well as disputes arising among trail users. |
