Stewart Airport Now Part of Port Authority

Submitted by Jessica Stein on Fri, 2007-07-27 10:33.

Stewart International Airport is now formally certified as a Port Authority of New York and New Jersey facility. The Port Authority's board passed a resolution to that effect yesterday.

The Port Authority cannot legally spend money on something that is not certified as one of its facilities. Therefore, the first thing that the action enables the group to do is spend $78.5 million to acquire Stewart's lease from the National Express Group.

According to the Times Herald-Record, the Port Authority will close purchase in October.
