Saratoga Woman Supports Fresh Air Fund

Submitted by Sabrina Must on Fri, 2007-07-13 14:12.

More people are thinking green in ways large and small. But for one Saratoga woman, that commitment is particularly impressive.

According to the Saratogian, Patty LeRoy, chairperson for the Ballston Spa chapter of the Fresh Air Fund, is hosting 40 children at her home this year alone. Involved with the Fresh Air children for 40 years, LeRoy insists: "They don't know what it's like to run out the back door into a grassy yard or go swimming."

The Fresh Air Fund enables kids between the ages of 6 to 18 in low-income areas to escape the smog of New York city-life and live anywhere from Maine to Virginia for up to a month. The fund began during the Industrial Revolution, an effort to provide kids with a healthier, cleaner environment to play and live in, hoping to ease the stress put on their bodies from air pollution.

LeRoy is dedicated to further providing this relief and escape, hoping to pass on the tradition to her children and grandchildren in years to come.
