Assembly May Force Congestion Pricing Commission

Submitted by Josh Abram on Thu, 2007-07-12 10:34.

Assembly Democrats, led by anti-congestion pricing advocates Richard Brodsky and Sheldon Silver, may consider creating a commission to pass a toned-down version of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's sweeping proposal to improve public transport, help the environment and make New York's air healthier to breathe.

Due to political realities, Bloomberg seems more willing to compromise on parts of his forward-thinking plan. The federal government has set July 16 (this Monday!) as the "drop dead date" for passing a proposal.

Editorial boards are calling for Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to bring back the Assembly and approve a pilot project.
