NY State Issues Ozone Air Warning TuesdaySubmitted by Sabrina Gusmorino on Tue, 2007-06-26 16:12.
The health and conservation departments have issued a statewide air quality advisory for Tuesday, warning of high levels of the pollutant ozone. The advisory will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Such advisories are issued when meteorologists predict pollution levels that exceed 100 on the Air Quality Index. According to The Times Union, The Department of Environmental Conservation said automobile exhaust and out-of-state emissions are the primary causes of ground-level ozone, a major component of smog, and they constitute the most serious air pollution problems in the Northeast. |
