Residents of Monroe, in Orange County, have a new jewel to explore and enjoy: A new nature preserve will provide residents with trails to explore the environment surrounding Mombasha Lake.

The Times Herald-Record reports that the new preserve was assembled from donated and purchased parcels of land around the lake. The rugged trails offer glimpses of natural habitats, including a beaver dam and bald eagle sightings. The preserve will star in its own promotional film that will air on Channel 22, Cablevision's local access channel.
