Kaplowitz Supports "Smart Meter" BillSubmitted by Sabrina Gusmorino on Fri, 2007-06-15 10:45.
Westchester County Legislator Michael Kaplowitz has announced his support for a state bill aimed at helping Westchester County residents obtain “smart” electric meters. The bill, sponsored by Assemblywoman Sandy Galef (D-Ossining), is in the assembly and is known as the “smart meter” bill. The goal is allow residential users to monitor their usage and energy charges up to minute so households decide whether they should reduce their electrical usage during peak times, when consuming power is more expensive than using electricity during off-peak hours. Kaplowitz contends the meters could save customers up to 30 percent on their monthly electric bills.
