Deal for Article X May Happen Before Legislature Folds

Submitted by Josh Abram on Thu, 2007-06-14 15:29.

While the legislature may have to meet again before August 1 to decide on congestion pricing, it is likely that Albany leaders will make a deal for reauthorizing the now-expired power plant siting law.

New York's siting law, Article X, expired in 2002 and has not been renewed. The state, with its surging energy demands, has been without a way to effectively create new power plants since then.

However, according to a Newsday article, the Democrats and Republicans may find a way to make a deal before the session closes. The NYLCV has the renewal of a power plant siting law a top priority in its End of Session Wish List.
