$130,000 Fine Slapped on Indian PointSubmitted by Ilene Kaplowitz on Thu, 2007-05-24 13:28.
Yesterday, just one day after Paul Newman toured Indian Point, the nuclear power plant was slapped with a $130,000 fine for not meeting important deadlines to get their state-of-the-art emergency sirens up and running by August. The new sirens are intended to alert everyone within 10 miles of the plant in case of an emergency. The old sirens, still in use, were knocked out because of blackouts caused by thunderstorms earlier this year. Representatives from County Exectutive Spano's office announced their disappointment with Entergy for missing two deadlines. The company is required to upgrade their facility under the 2005 Federal Energy Policy Act .
