From "Rust Belt" to "Wind Belt?"

Bethlehem, NY - a city just south of Buffalo epitomizes the 'rust belt.' Now, it's image is changing to become a progressive trailblazer in wind powered energy. Up to 27 turbines will be built on an old Superfund brownfield sites that was once occupied by steel mills.

In total, the turbines will produce 20 megawatts of electricity a year, enough to provide power to 7,000 homes.

It appears that the arrival of these turbines mark a very bittersweet turning point for the town of Bethlehem, a once thriving steel town after World War II. Since the 1960's population has dropped significantly. Town officials are hoping that the arrival of wind energy will make it a more attractive place to live and do business.
