Little Not to Like About Pick for 'Dacks Chair

Submitted by Joshua Klainberg on Thu, 2007-05-03 18:46.

On Tuesday, May 1 2007, Governor Spitzer nominated Richard Booth as the new Chair of the Adirondack Park Agency.

Booth comes with solid credentials:

  • Professor of urban and regional studies at Cornell University
  • Member of the Tompkins County Legislature
  • Former member of the Adirondack Council (and NYLCV Board!)
  • Former lawyer for the state Department of Environmental Conservation

What's not to like?

If you're Senator Betty Little, it's the fact that he lives in Ithaca, which is outside the Adirondack Park. While the law permits the governor to appoint a chair who lives outside the "blue line," State Senator Betty Little is seeing red.

Little wrote the Governor:

"Leadership of the agency is extremely important. We believe the chairman should be a person who lives in the Adirondacks, understands the economy, and is accessible to the people of the Adirondacks."

Little's opposition could mean a lot as Booth must be confirmed by the State Senate.
