Buildings Guilty Of Climate CrimesSubmitted by Ilene Kaplowitz on Wed, 2007-04-11 17:34.
At a press conference in lower Manhattan yesterday, Mayor Bloomberg released an inventory of carbon dioxide emissions in New York City. Buildings were the main culprit, responsible for 79 percent of the greenhouse gases produced in the Big Apple. That being said, the study also mentioned that the city has already taken strides to reduce its emissions by 446,000 metric tons a year by using cleaner fuel and buying energy-efficient equipment. This is the first step the administration has taken to move forward with the 2030 Sustainability Agenda announced at a NYLCV hosted event in December 2006. Now that the Mayor has the facts, NYLCV will be tracking what he'll do with them in the months to come. There is more big news slated to come from the Mayor's office on April 22, Earth Day.
