Can I Get An "Oomph Oomph?"

Submitted by Ilene Kaplowitz on Wed, 2007-03-28 11:59.

Yesterday, as NYLCV predicted, Democrats swept the special election on Long Island. Michelle Schimel and Wayne Wink were elected to the New York State Assembly and Nassau County Legislature, respectively.

Schimel said the wide margin will give her instant credibility in the assembly. "It's nice to get to Albany with a little oomph behind you," she said. "Certainly that percentage means a lot to me." Wink's victory gives Democrats back the 10-9 advantage in the Nassau County Legislature.

Schimel's 16th assembly district includes Great Neck, Port Washington, Manhasset, and Roslyn. The seat became open after Assemblyman DiNapoli was appointed to the comptroller's office.

When State Senator Craig Johnson won his election to the state senate earlier this year, his 11th legislative district of Port Washington, Roslyn, Garden City Park, and Herricks was left open.

We wish both newly electeds lots of luck. They're gonna need all the oomph they can get!
