Is Spitzer Closer to A Position on Broadwater?Submitted by Stacy Feldman on Thu, 2007-03-01 00:12.
Nope. At least that's what he told Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy. Levy urged Spitzer in a meeting to oppose the proposed 1200-foot liquefied natural gas terminal that would float on the Long Island Sound. Here's what Levy told Newsday: "He listened intently and said he was looking to do an overall, comprehensive review of the area's energy needs before he comes to a decision." This is quite a departure from an article that Newsday ran a few weeks ago in which it cited high-level sources as saying that Spitzer is leaning toward supporting Broadwater. The project needs state approval, and the governor is expected to weigh in after the state Department of State issues its analysis this spring. Levy told Newsday that "he would go to court to stop the project if necessary and said Tuesday he would do so even if Spitzer, a fellow Democrat, supports Broadwater."
