Where is NY on Climate Change?

Submitted by Stacy Feldman on Thu, 2007-02-22 15:54.

We're still eons behind California. So it seems. The sunshine state is clearly the leader in the pack when it comes to fighting climate change.  Schwarzenneger is seen as the nation's best on this issue, and the Democratic-controlled senate in that state is asking for more.  More? It's fine, politics, whatever. And it's good news. But the point here is that New York is behind the curve on this issue. And while most of what needs to be done on climate change can happen through executive orders anyway, the state of New York still needs leadership fast.

The NY Times called on Governor Spitzer this week to commit right now to strong action. And we agree. Leadership from  New York on this issue is not only vital to the economic and environmental health of this state, but it could be what it takes to compel action at the federal level.
