Perkins Takes Lead on Lead, Again

Submitted by Stacy Feldman on Fri, 2007-01-26 16:39.

He's been in the media calling on the Bloomberg administration to enforce the lead bill that passed in 2004, the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Law. Perkins was the main sponsor of the bill back when he was on the council, and we were right there with him.

The lead issue reared its ugly head again right after The Daily News reported
that lead violations had been issued for 900 buildings occupied by families in the city's Housing Stability Plus Program. Perkins says he now has plans to introduce legislation that will cut state funds for the housing program if city hall refuses to make those building lead-free.

Bloomberg's response? He says he's strictly following the letter of the law, as the city council passed it.
